Honda to Deliver McLaren Upgrade at Spanish GP

When the teams left the paddock at Bahrain, McLaren could celebrate the progress they have made since the season opening contest in Australia, evidenced by driver Fernando Alonso’s P11 finish under the lights at Sakhir. As McLaren and Honda seek to score the first points of their partnership, all attention is turned to Barcelona for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix. Formula 1 returns to Europe, the “home” of the series. No doubt, McLaren hopes to impress, especially in the case of Alonso, who would enjoy a points-paying performance in his home race.

McLaren and Honda, like other teams, utilized the weeks interim between the Bahrain and Spanish Grands Prix. Honda announced that upgrades for the McLaren MP4-30 are imminent, and that in Spain the team will profit from increased “driveability” and “reliability.” The Circuit de Catalunya is a high-speed, technically challenging course that massively tests both driveability and reliability, so the new upgrades for the car may prove very beneficial to the team as they search for a top ten finish.

After four races in 2015, McLaren is pleased with the incremental progress they have made with the MP4-30, improving elements of the car for each grand prix. However, Honda and McLaren hope to return the team to the front of the grid with increased development work throughout the rest of the 2015 world championship hunt. In the short-term, planned upgrades for Spain may deliver for the team their first points of the year.
